Fifteen of San Diego County's top salons and spas were recognized for their outstanding efforts to elevate beauty education and career awareness during the Beauty Industry Appreciation Night hosted by the Bellus Academy of Beauty & Spa on Wednesday, June 9, 2010. The honorees were chosen for their participation in mentoring and externship programs, education advisory boards, as well as the local grassroots campaign, We Love Our Jobs, that pledged a $1 million in scholarships and educated the community on the benefits of beauty careers.

By nurturing the future of the beauty industry and sharing their passion for their jobs with the community, it has helped us take another step further in changing the perception of beauty as a fallback career. - Salon professionals can average up to a $50,000 annual salary including tips
- Estheticians can expect almost a 38 percent increase in job openings
- The beauty industry continues to thrive despite economic woes. Statistics predict it will grow nationwide by 12 percent, even exceeding the average growth rate for all other occupations by almost 20 percent
- In California, almost 70 percent of salon and spa operators say they are unable to find qualified applicants to hire, meaning jobs are immediately available upon graduation
